College Management System
Challenge
Abbey College required a new College Management System to improve administration of student, tutor and course records and cope with the increasing volume of students attending the college.
Solution
Version 1 developed a bespoke system based on Microsoft .NET technology and utilising SharePoint Services 3.0 for security and document and task management functionality. The reporting and correspondence aspects of the registration system are managed with SQL Reporting Services. Over 500,000 records were migrated from the old system which was decommissioned within one week of the new system going live.
The College's existing system managed just student registration information. The new system has core modules to manage information on students, courses, attendance, tutors and college resources. This additional functionality streamlines college administration and reporting.
Benefit
The new system has dramatically reduced the need for manual processing of college information and has improved the college's ability to meet mandatory requirements, such as reporting on student attendance. (Attendance must be reported to the Garda National Immigration Bureau for retention of student visas.)
