Get the inside scoop from one of our newest Digital Associates and find out why she chose Version 1 as the perfect place to launch her IT career.
How did you end up joining Version 1?
My route into IT was anything but normal! I first studied Arts (English and History) at university, two subjects I am very passionate about. Then I took a couple of years off to travel and worked in the hospitality industry while abroad and when I returned home. I ended up in a management position in hospitality but decided to go back to college to upskill as I wanted a new challenge. Then I completed a two-year part-time HDip in Computing before applying for Version 1.
Why Version 1? Have you had any stand-out memories since you’ve joined?
I came across Version 1 on the Great Place to Work website and began to research them. The Accelerate videos at the time showed that Version 1 didn’t just take in Computer Science graduates but rather sought out grads with a variety of backgrounds. This was something that really appealed to me.
The initial two-week training I had at the start with the other graduates in my intake was excellent. We all came from very diverse backgrounds and it really gave us a chance to get to know each other and form friendships.
Does your role within Version 1 challenge you?
I know from friends on other graduate programmes outside of IT that they are often expected to work long hours, to appear like they are working hard. It’s not like that at all in Version 1, I stayed until 6pm one evening and the office was practically empty. It’s clear that Version 1 is committed to a work-life balance.
