Gender Equality
Version 1 is delighted to support diverse events promoting gender equality, from Girls Who Code, School Reach Out, Women's ReBoot, Geek Girl Dinners, the Women In Tech Initiative at the annual Women in Tech Awards, and the STEM Ambassador Programme to Women in IT. In addition, we always have fun celebrating International Men's and Women's Day too.
Team Compatibility
At Version 1 we operate across different locations, languages, time zones and cultures, so it's important for our people to understand the working styles and behaviours of others and the composition of skills on the teams they work with. No matter where you work at Version 1, no matter what your background, we want you to be successful.
Unconscious Bias
One of the key aims of our Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Team is to identify, challenge and reduce unconscious bias in the workplace. Workplaces with less bias all tend to cultivate fairer, more diverse and more successful cultures. To promote this we have built Unconscious Bias training into our mandatory onboarding training for any new joiners.

About Version 1's Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Team

The Mission of Version 1’s Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIBs) team is to create a diverse workplace where our differences are accepted and we feel that we belong. A key focus area recently has been around belonging.

Diversity is difference and difference is difficult.  Many people worry whether they fit in at a new place, but belonging unifies people.  While we will continue to celebrate key events like Diwali and International Men’s/Women’s Day, we want to go deeper and have a bigger impact at Version 1 – focusing on belonging benefits for all.

When organizations succeed in creating a culture of belonging, the upsides are enormous — higher employee engagement scores, an enhanced talent brand, lower attrition, fewer sick days, improved productivity, better communication, and teams that fire on all cylinders in terms of innovation and collaboration.

Our DIBs Motto:

The Motto of our DIB Team is: “Bring Your Difference“. This was inspired by our very own people. Driving innovation in all areas of a customer’s business on a daily basis is something that Version 1 people have always been known for. Every day, we are amazed at the level of innovation and commitment to problem-solving displayed by our consultants across hundreds of customer sites and projects. The range and capability of technology today is truly amazing but without our great people, nothing would happen. They bring their differences together to make differences for all.

#StartsWithAName Campaign

Dale Carnegie said back in 1937 in his book 'How To Win Friends And Influence People': "Remember that a person's name is, to that person, the sweetest and most important sound in any language". How can you belong in a place where people can't say your name? That's the premise of Version 1's #startswithaname campaign. We asked staff to submit videos clarifying the pronunciation of their name, and to include the phonetic versions of their names on their e-mail signatures.

We aim to go above and beyond to ensure that the women in our workforce are treated fairly when it comes to pay, recognition, training and promotion opportunities; where they can take the time off they need to attend to childcare or other family commitments; and where they are encouraged, empowered and supported to do their best work. UK Gender Pay Gap Report '19-'20

In our 2020 Gender Pay Gap report we were happy to report an improvement in our mean pay gap and decrease in our median pay gap. Like many other companies in our industry, our gap is primarily caused by having fewer women in senior grades and highly paid technical roles. We are confident that men and women across our organisation are paid equally for doing the same job. Seniority, responsibilities, skills, experience and other role characteristics are the factors deciding pay. While we are not where we want to be just yet, we believe that with continued focus, effort and support, the dial will continue to move towards a more inclusive workplace for all.

Belonging at Version 1

Belonging is now at the centre of the conversation in the Diversity & Inclusion space at Version 1. Our expectations of work are changing; you can have all the diversity in the world, but you won't thrive unless you feel that you belong. International Women's Day 2020 - #EachforEqual

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, #EachforEqual, is centred around forging a more equal world. Whether this means a gender-equal boardroom, a gender-equal government, gender-equal media coverage, gender-equal workplaces, gender-equal sports coverage, more gender equality in health and wealth, #EachforEqual today applauds the progress being made in making the world a more balanced place for women worldwide.

Version 1 Host "Geek Girl Dinner" in Dublin

In January 2020 Version 1 and Geek Girl Dinners were delighted to host an interactive panel discussion on lessons learned from Agile Project Management and Agile Software Development in Dogpatch Labs, Dublin. Topics discussed included the best approaches for the adoption of Agile and Lean Thinking, pitfalls our panel may have seen in terms of implementing Agile and how to know if Agile is right for an organisation.

International Men's Day 2019

For International Men's Day 2019 we took the time to thank our male colleagues for their help, guidance and efforts throughout the year by guilding them with a badge on our virtual Praise wall. We also used the day to continue our conversations around Mental Wellbeing by promoting our Employee Assistance Programme, which is available to all of our people regardless of their gender, age, race or religion.
