{"id":7655,"date":"2023-08-16T16:39:34","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T16:39:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/en-us\/?p=7655"},"modified":"2023-08-16T16:39:34","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T16:39:34","slug":"oracle-epm-integration-agent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/en-us\/oracle-epm-integration-agent\/","title":{"rendered":"Product Update Highlights: Oracle EPM Integration Agent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This blog is a guide for using Oracle EPM Integration Agent for inbound as well as outbound integration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/enterprise-performance-management-epm\/\">Oracle EPM <\/a>Cloud.<\/p>\n<h2>EPM Integration Agent Background<\/h2>\n<p>We can directly extract, load, and transform metadata and data from a wide variety of on-premises and third-party cloud source systems for use in Oracle EPM Cloud. The agent, implemented as a data source for Data Management and Data Integration, responds and provides the specified information when a user executes data load rules.<\/p>\n<p>The EPM Integration Agent provides <strong><em>connectivity<\/em><\/strong><em> <strong>between the EPM Cloud and on-premises<\/strong><\/em> <strong>sources<\/strong> including SQL data sources like \u2013<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server<\/li>\n<li>E-Business Suite GL<\/li>\n<li>PeopleSoft GL<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>The agent can run in two different modes:-<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Asynchronous\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Synchronous<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The mode determines how communication is opened between your on-premises data source and the EPM Cloud.<\/p>\n<h3>Asynchronous Mode:<\/h3>\n<p>When integration is executed in asynchronous mode, the EPM Cloud queues for the integration job to execute. The agent polls at intervals and executes the jobs queued.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Oracle-EPM-Cloud-Asynchronous-Mode.png\" alt=\"Asynchronous Mode\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<h3>Synchronous Mode:<\/h3>\n<p>In synchronous mode, EPM Cloud directly calls the agent. This requires EPM Cloud to connect over HTTP(s) to the agent.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Oracle-EPM-Cloud-Synchronous-Mode.png\" alt=\"Synchronous Mode\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<h3>EPM Integration Agent Configuration:<\/h3>\n<p>The agent requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 8+ to run. JRE 1.8 update 221 needs to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oracle.com\/technetwork\/java\/javase\/downloads\/jre8-downloads-2133155.html\">downloaded <\/a>and installed.<\/p>\n<p>Type in search <strong>CMD&gt;&gt; Type java -version<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Oracle-EPM-Cloud-Java-Image.png\" alt=\"Java Image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Login to PBCS &gt; Navigate &gt; Data Exchange and go to Action &gt; Download Agent.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Download-EPM-Integrator-Agent.png\" alt=\"Download EPM Integrator Agent\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Once downloaded, extract the zip file.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPM-Integration-Agent-Zip-File-2-1.png\" alt=\"EPM Integration Agent 2\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPM-Integration-Agent-Zip-File-3-1.png\" alt=\"EPM Integration Agent 3\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Type command prompt in search &gt; Run as administrator.<\/p>\n<p>In the \u201cbin\u201d directory folder the following is the .bat file, which is used for configuring and running the EPM Agent.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/createAppFolder.bat_.png\" alt=\"Create App Folder\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>createAppFolder.bat<\/strong> \u2013 Use for the creation of an app folder where one registers the application to connect to Source on-premise to the Target application.<\/p>\n<p><strong>encryptpassword<\/strong>.<strong>bat \u2013 <\/strong>Use for encrypting password use for connection with PBCS\/EPBCS URL.<\/p>\n<p><strong>epmagent<\/strong>.<strong>bat \u2013 <\/strong>Use for running EPM Agent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>stopagent<\/strong>.<strong>bat \u2013 <\/strong>Use for stopping EPM Agent.<\/p>\n<p>Next is to open Command Prompt and traverse to the bin directory.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Open-Command-Prompt-EPM-Cloud.png\" alt=\"open Command Prompt\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Type <strong>createAppfolder.bat<\/strong> and press <strong>ENTER.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-png-Aug-12-2020-09-51-01-50-AM.png\" alt=\"Command Prompt Image 2\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>It will create below four folders (config, data, logs, scripts).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPM-Integration-Agent-Script.png\" alt=\"EPM Integration Agent Script\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>config Folder<\/strong> contains an initialization file <strong>agentparams.ini <\/strong>where the parameters to connect to PBCS\/EPBCS are set up. So traverse to the config folder and open the <strong>agentparams.ini <\/strong>file.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/agentparams.ini_.png\" alt=\"Agent Parameters\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>The file will be open in the below format &#8211; Which we will open and populate along with steps.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Agentparams.png\" alt=\"Agent Parameters\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>EPM_AGENT_HOME<\/strong>: Path where the EPM Agent folder is located<\/p>\n<p><strong>EPM_APP_DATA_HOME<\/strong>: Path where Application is created i.e. <strong>appdata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>AGENT_NAME<\/strong>: It\u2019s the parameter name that appears in Data Exchange when connected (Explain in the further process), any name can be used<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLUSTER<\/strong>: It is the Cluster name that is created in the Data Exchange in PBCS\/EPBCS application<\/p>\n<p><strong>PORT<\/strong>: always 9090<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLOUD_URL<\/strong>: URL of PBCS\/EPBCS (this should be till oracle.com)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLOUD_DOMAIN<\/strong>: Domain of your cloud application<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLOUD_USER_NAME<\/strong>: Username<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLOUD_PASSWORD<\/strong>: Encrypted password which is covered in further process<\/p>\n<p><strong>POLL_INTERVAL<\/strong>: It is in seconds and only used for Asynchronous Mode<\/p>\n<p>For setting up parameters one has to create clusters in PBCS\/EPBCS, clusters provide a way of organizing integrations. Clusters are created in Data Management and can either be defined to operate in synchronous or asynchronous modes.<\/p>\n<p>To create a cluster, go to Data Exchange &gt; Action &gt; Agent &gt; Create New<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Agent-Cluster.png\" alt=\"Agent Cluster\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>We need to encrypt the password with \u201cencryptpassword\u201d script in the agent bin directory.<\/p>\n<p>Go to the \u201cbin\u201d folder.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPM-Integrator-Agent-Bin-Folder.png\" alt=\"EPM Integrator Agent Bin Folder\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Open Command prompt type encryptpassword.bat &gt; type password and press enter.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Open-Command-prompt-type.png\" alt=\"Open Command prompt type\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>The encrypted password must be manually copied to the <strong>ini file<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>** <strong>Example of a completed ini file<\/strong>**<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Example-of-a-completed-ini-file.png\" alt=\"Example of a completed ini file\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>The EPM Cloud SSL certificate needs to be exported and copied to the agent cert folder.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click the padlock icon<\/li>\n<li>Select Site Settings<\/li>\n<li>Certificate<\/li>\n<li>Details tab and select Copy to File<\/li>\n<li>Save the file to the agent \u201c<strong>cert folder\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Cert-Folder.png\" alt=\"Cert Folder\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>The agent is now ready to run in asynchronous mode.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Open the command prompt and traverse to the EPM Agent bin folder.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPM-Agent.png\" alt=\"EPM Agent image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPM-Agent-Image-3.png\" alt=\"EPM Agent Image 3\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPM-Agent-Image-4.png\" alt=\"EPM Agent Image 4\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Go back to the Data Integration and select the cluster. You will now see the agent has been registered successfully.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPMAsync.png\" alt=\"EPM Async\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<h3>Loading Data using EPM Integration Agent:<\/h3>\n<p>Before we begin the data load, we need to test the connection with the source database.<\/p>\n<p>Open SQL Developer and connect with the Database.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Oracle-SQL-Dev.png\" alt=\"Oracle SQL Dev image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>We want to connect to Employee Details View.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Employee-Details-View.png\" alt=\"Employee Details View\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Create an SQL query in Data Integration that will be executed by the agent to extract the data.<\/p>\n<p>Go to Data Integration &gt; Actions &gt; Query.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Data-Integration-Query.png\" alt=\"Data Integration Query\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Add a new query<\/li>\n<li>Enter a new name for the query and the SQL statement and save<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Create-Query.png\" alt=\"Create Query\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>We have <strong>~COUNTRYID~<\/strong> in the SQL statement. This allows you to filter the data to be extracted. It is possible to set the value either at the data load rule level or at the application level.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Query-Name-Details.png\" alt=\"Query Name Details\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>The next step is to create a <strong>comma-separated file<\/strong> with a line containing all the possible columns that one needs to load the data in the Application.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/CSV-Image-1.png\" alt=\"CSV Image 1\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>*Note*<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>The name of the file will become the name of the target application in Data Management<\/strong> <strong>and save the file in-app data.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Data Management<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Data-Management.png\" alt=\"Data Management\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Now it\u2019s time to create a Data Source.<\/p>\n<p>Go to Data Management.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Data-Source.png\" alt=\"Data Source\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Target Application &gt; Add &gt; Data Source.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Target-Application-Summary.png\" alt=\"Target Application Summary\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Select Premise Database OR Cloud.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Source-System-On-Premises-Database.png\" alt=\"Source System On-Premises Database\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Upload the file with the column names and select it and click Save.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPM-Details-Demo.png\" alt=\"EPM Details Demo\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>The filename has been converted into the application name.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Application-Details-Job-Title.png\" alt=\"Application Details Job Title\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Go to the Application filter tab that provides options to configure the connection to the source database.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Data-Extract-Query.png\" alt=\"Data Extract Query\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Choose Delimiter.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Choose-Delimiter.png\" alt=\"Choose Delimiter\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Choose Credential Store \u2013 Cloud or File.<\/p>\n<p>JDBC driver.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/JDBC.png\" alt=\"JDBC drop down image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>jdbc:oracle:thin:@dbhost:port\/service<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For this case, we are using <strong>jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521\/DEV<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/JDBC-URL.png\" alt=\"JDBC URL image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Username\/Password is for the user you want to connect to the database.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Application-Filters.png\" alt=\"Application Filters\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Click Edit to add Variable that is used in the SQL query \u201c<strong>COUNTRYID<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Application-Filters-Country-ID.png\" alt=\"Application Filters Country ID\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: The Name Country ID should be an exact match with what has been mentioned in the SQL Query.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Give Filter Name, Display Prompt, Display order, and Display level, and click OK.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Edit-Application-Details.png\" alt=\"Edit Application Details\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Create Import Format in Data Management.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Create-Import-Format.png\" alt=\"Create Import Format\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Follow the normal integration procedure for creating the Location and Data Load Rule. In the Data Load Rule, one can see the filter for Country ID. Enter the filter as desired.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Data-Load-File.png\" alt=\"Data Load File\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Click Save, and click Execute.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Execute.png\" alt=\"Execute image.\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>After the execution of the rule, we can see the file is processing in the Process details and also in the command Prompt \u201cPolling\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Workflow-Process-Details.png\" alt=\"Workflow Process Details\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Make-Poll-Data.png\" alt=\"Make Poll Data\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Once the process is completed, Data Load Workbench to see the loaded data.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Workflow-Import.png\" alt=\"Workflow Import\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>We can check the .dat file in EPM Agent under<\/p>\n<p>C:OracleEPMAgentappdata[application-name]data<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>Data Write Back using EPM Integration Agent:<\/h3>\n<p>Consider the \u201cACTUALS\u201d database as the target where the adjusted data is to be written back.<\/p>\n<p>The table structure is as below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Actuals-Data-Table.png\" alt=\"Actuals Data Table\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Currently, data is loaded for Cash, and hence the Data Source: Load.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Data-Source-Load.png\" alt=\"Data Source Load\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>The following adjustment data needs to be written from an Oracle EPM Cloud Application back into the ACTUALS database.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/ACTUALS-Database.png\" alt=\"ACTUALS Database\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>The first step is to register the On-premises Database in Data Management.<\/p>\n<p>Create a file with Headers of the Target Database i.e. ACTUALS.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: Mentioned the exact columns which are present in the Database.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>EPM WB Actuals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.version1.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/EPM-WB-Actuals.png\" alt=\"EPM WB Actuals\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Registering the Database in the Data Management.<\/p>\n<p>For that traverse to Data Management in the EPM Application by clicking Navigator-&gt;Data Management-&gt;Setup-&gt;
