Version 1 Awarded Key HMRC Cloud Contract

Version 1

Version 1 to build and maintain HM Revenue and Customs Cloud Platform and associated components

Version 1 is delighted to have been awarded a two-year contract by HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs) in the United Kingdom to support and maintain the department’s Cloud Platform and associated components upon which its customer groups (Customer Compliance, Customer Services, Customer Strategy, and Tax Design, Corporate, VOA, Borders, and Trade) will develop and deliver their specific line of business services.

Key Challenges and Requirements

Publishing a request for supplier proposals on the Digital Outcomes & Specialists 5 framework in January 2022, HMRC sought a partner to support the ongoing build, transformation and support (potentially 24/7/365) of the department’s large and complex Hybrid Platform estate which needs to be maintained and managed to meet all the challenges the department faces.

Moving its IT estate to the Cloud is making it easier for HMRC to:

  • Make changes and improvements to services for its customers
  • Scale the services it delivers to its customers to meet business peaks

Version 1 was awarded the contract in the first quarter of 2022 and through this partnership will extend HMRC’s technical resource capability and capacity to meet these challenges. In March 2022, Version 1 aided in the smooth handover from the incumbent supplier, working directly with the HMRC Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS) division.

ECS’ vision is to enable and empower HMRC to accelerate cloud adoption. This Cloud-focused division of HMRC is responsible for delivering and managing the HMRC Cloud Platforms – Public and Private – providing the appropriate guardrails, products, and features that will be consumed by HMRC’s Customer Groups to develop and deliver services.

Aimed at building the Cloud Platforms upon which HMRC can leverage a multi-cloud environment of Public and Private Clouds, Version 1 will also support the delivery, adoption and ongoing optimisation of Cloud-native products and features in partnership with the Enterprise Cloud Services team in HMRC.

Version 1 is uniquely placed to rise to the occasion for HMRC’s multi-cloud environment, offering the department unparalleled expertise as an AWS Premier Partner and a Gold Microsoft partner, highly experienced in building, migrating, re-architecting, running and optimising AWS and Azure estates.

Enda Diggins, Head of Version 1’s UK Digital, Data and Cloud practice commented on the positive news:

We are delighted to embark on this Cloud journey with HMRC during what will be an exciting period of transformation. We are excited to bring to this engagement Version 1’s deep expertise, experience and relationships with AWS and Microsoft to ensure HMRC leverages best-in-class Cloud solutions to maximise the department’s hybrid-cloud investment. Being awarded this large contract by HMRC reflects Version 1’s heavy investment and unmatched expertise in the top Cloud platforms, in addition to demonstrable success across the UK & Ireland’s public sectors. Working closely with HMRC’s Enterprise Cloud Services  division, we look forward to adding real value to this engagement, ultimately benefiting the department and its customers.

The contract is for an initial two-year period, with an optional extension period of 6 months. Version 1 is the sole organisation delivering the contract, having taken over from the incumbent supplier in 2022.
