Version 1 establishes digital development hub in Belfast – 70 new IT jobs for Northern Ireland

Version 1 has announced the establishment of a new Digital Development Hub in Belfast, alongside the creation of 70 specialist technology roles.

The Digital Development Hub was established to support growing customer demand for digital and cloud services across both public and private sector organisations in the UK and internationally.

Having first established operations in Belfast in 2012, the expansion formed part of Version 1’s continued growth strategy, increasing local headcount to approximately 200 employees by October 2021.

Supporting Growing Demand for Digital and Cloud Services

The announcement followed a strong sales pipeline and several significant customer wins, including a nearshore software development engagement for a global wealth management organisation operating across 28 countries.

The Belfast Digital Development Hub was created to deliver a range of digital, cloud and engineering services for customers and offered opportunities across several specialist technology disciplines, including:

  • Cloud-Native Software Development
  • Test Automation
  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
  • Data Engineering
  • Platform Engineering
  • DevOps Engineering
  • Service Design
  • Product Management
  • Delivery Management
  • Scrum Master Services

The investment reflected Version 1’s commitment to growing its digital and cloud delivery capabilities while strengthening Northern Ireland’s position as a technology hub.

Tom O’Connor, CEO of Version 1, said:

“This is an exciting time for Version 1 in Northern Ireland as we continue to invest in local technology talent who can help our customers accelerate their digital transformation.

Having opened our Belfast office just eight years ago, the Northern Ireland team has exceeded all expectations through consistent growth and exceptional performance.

The team also works closely with local schools, universities and community organisations to create opportunities for underrepresented groups and individuals seeking to begin careers in technology.

The new recruits will join at an exciting time for the business, with several major customer projects already in the pipeline. We look forward to welcoming them to the Version 1 team.”

Investing in Northern Ireland’s Technology Ecosystem

Version 1 highlighted the strategic importance of Belfast as a delivery location for customers seeking highly skilled technical resources and scalable digital delivery capabilities.

Lorna McAdoo, Head of Operations NI, said:

“Version 1 provides innovative services that make a real difference to our customers’ businesses, and it’s fantastic to see the company continue to grow in the region.

Today’s announcement demonstrates that customers recognise both the quality of technical talent available in Belfast and the value that a delivery hub of this scale can provide.

The new Digital Development Hub reflects our ongoing commitment to our customers, our local community and our ambition to be one of Northern Ireland’s leading technology employers.”

The investment reinforced Version 1’s long-term commitment to Northern Ireland and its strategy of building regional delivery capabilities to support digital transformation programmes for customers across multiple sectors.
