Version 1 Northern Ireland doubles in size

Version 1 has announced a major expansion of its Belfast operations following significant new business wins, particularly across the energy, utilities and public services sectors.

The growth reflects increasing demand for Version 1’s technology and digital transformation services and supports the company’s continued investment in Northern Ireland.

Belfast Team Set for Significant Growth

Commenting on the expansion, Lorna McAdoo, Head of Operations at Version 1 Northern Ireland, said:

“Today’s announcement comes after a lot of very hard work from the Version 1 team in Belfast. We have become more competitive in Northern Ireland and this, combined with the hard work and commitment of our team, has led to several large contracts being awarded to us.”

Lorna added:

“Over the next six months, we will be doubling our office space at Cromac Place and also doubling our workforce to 120 people over the next two years, creating additional opportunities for technology professionals across Northern Ireland. We have very exciting times ahead.”

A Strong Growth Story in Belfast

Version 1 established its first Belfast office in 2012 with just four employees operating from a small serviced office.

Following rapid growth, the company relocated to Cromac Place in September 2014.

Since then, the Belfast operation had expanded to approximately 60 employees, with plans to grow to 120 employees within two years, making it one of the fastest-growing technology employers in the region.

Continued Investment Across the Business

At the time of the announcement, Version 1 had:

  • Expected annual revenues of approximately €106 million (£93 million)
  • More than 900 employees
  • Operations across:
    • Belfast
    • Dublin
    • Cork
    • Manchester
    • Edinburgh
    • Kent
    • Birmingham

The company had also strengthened its market position through a series of strategic acquisitions, including:

  • Rocela Group
  • Patech Solutions
  • Beoley Mill Software

Earlier in 2017, Version 1 announced plans to create 365 new jobs over three years, supported by a €90 million investment from Volpi Capital.

These investments reflected the company’s ambition to continue growing its presence across the UK and Ireland while expanding its digital transformation, cloud, data and managed services capabilities.

Creating Opportunities for Northern Ireland Technology Talent

The Belfast expansion formed part of Version 1’s broader commitment to developing technology careers within Northern Ireland.

Alongside growing its customer base and delivery capabilities, the company continued to work with local educational institutions and community organisations to help create pathways into technology careers for both graduates and career changers.

The investment further reinforced Belfast’s growing reputation as an important regional technology hub and demonstrated Version 1’s confidence in the local talent market.
