Rapid Configuration of the NHS Nightingale London with Barts Health NHS Trust

Barts Health NHS Trust initially contacted Version 1 to provide advice and guidance on the optimum configuration of the Nightingale Hospital on their existing Oracle solution.

Any solution needed to be driven by the requirement to have the Hospital up and running on Oracle within a matter of days, whilst also allowing reporting and control of all spend associated with the Nightingale.

Barts Health has been a long-standing customer of Version 1, having being contracted to implement Oracle E-Business Suite in 2005. Since then, Version 1 has provided a full Managed Support service, as well as complimentary consulting and value-add services including Upgrades, Reporting Solutions, OCR Scanning and Integration with 3rd party products.

The NHS Nightingale London

A Safety Net for London Hospitals

NHS Nightingale London has been specially constructed to support all NHS London hospitals in the event of a surge of COVID-19. The hospital is designed to provide care for patients who have already been intubated and ventilated and require further intensive care treatment for COVID-19. NHS Nightingale London will remain a specialist treatment hospital for as long as it’s needed.

Based at the ExCeL conference centre in east London, the hospital can provide up to 500 intensive care beds, fully equipped with ventilators and oxygen. If the hospital is required to be fully operational, it would be the largest intensive care unit in Europe, with trained critical care doctors, nurses and associated support staff, ensuring the appropriate treatment and care for patients.

Key Challenge

As part of the mobilisation and ongoing running of the Nightingale Hospital, there was an immediate requirement to procure goods and services. With no systems in place and little time to bring the Hospital to full functionality, the decision was made to host the organisation on the existing Barts Health NHS Trust Oracle E-Business Suite solution.

Real Differences, Delivered

Optimum Configuration of E-Business Suite

Barts Health initially contacted Version 1 to provide advice and guidance on the optimum configuration of the Nightingale Hospital on their existing Oracle solution. Any solution needed to be driven by the requirement to have the Hospital up and running on Oracle within a matter of days, whilst also allowing reporting and control of all spend associated with the Nightingale.

The Nightingale was configured within the Oracle system within 48 hours and the Hospital was able to immediately commence the procurement of goods and services. Once configured, Barts Health had a further requirement to apply additional approval of spend at the Nightingale, specifically where these costs were being funded by Charitable organisations.

Version 1 designed and delivered a robust Requisition Approval workflow process in an accelerated period to provide the required functionality whilst retaining the integrity of the existing Barts processes.

As a result of this project, Barts Health and Version 1 were able to work together to rapidly deploy a time-critical solution to the NHS.
