A worldwide transport service partnered with Version 1 in an AWS Next-Gen Managed Service. When Version 1 first partnered with the customer in an AWS Next-Gen Managed Service, they worked together to meet critical business development plans while entering new international markets.
From the ongoing success they have had together, Version 1’s aim is to ensure the customer can develop their current environment while welcoming additional databases in AWS.
Challenge
Cost Saving Plans
Taking into consideration the customers overarching IT strategy aims to move away from reserved instance purchases and into a secure savings plan, Version 1 carried out a review aiming to implement cost reduction where possible, offering two potential schemes for the customer to choose from.
Plan 1 (The Compute Plan) offers a great range of flexibility whereas Plan 2 (Instance EC2 Plan) offers deeper saving opportunities.
Providing our customer with two options ensures they can look over the specifications in a timely, in-depth manner, and make a decision that will in turn provide their business with the results they wish to achieve, depending on their preferences.
Solution
Conducting a Well-Architected Review
A Well Architected Review (WAR) was performed by an AWS Certified consultant on behalf of Version 1 for the customer on the 20th of May 2021. The review was performed with members of the customers internal team, which focused on their AWS production workloads. As a result of this review, a number of high-risk issues were identified across the five pillars of the Well Architected Framework.
Based on the outcomes of the review, Version 1 identified these several key areas where remediation should be addressed.
- Cost Optimisation
- Operational Excellence
- Performance Efficiency
- Reliability
- Security
The customer is currently reviewing the outcomes of the WAR and is working towards a plan alongside Version 1, on how to execute the key areas in an appropriate manner. They expect to commence work on the review findings within the coming weeks.
