Uniphar:
Oracle Database and AIX Managed Service
Challenge
Uniphar Group is an Irish distributor of products to the retail pharmacy sector with annual turnover of €705M and over 600 employees. The challenge for Version 1 is to provide 24x7x365 support for the Group’s Oracle/AIX Enterprise Warehouse Management System.
Solution
The Enterprise Warehouse Management System is a business critical application that must be available 24x7. Uniphar was experiencing stability and support concerns with the Oracle/AIX infrastructure underpinning this application. The Group needed a cast iron guarantee that this system was being actively monitored and managed and therefore would be available at all times and to this end contracted Version 1 to provide a monitored managed service.
Benefit
The Managed Service provided by Version 1 demonstrates clear benefits in the following areas:
- Allows Uniphar to commit to an internal and external SLA. Proactive monitoring and preventative maintenance means that issues are resolved proactively, reducing downtime.
- Provides Uniphar with a predictive cost model.
- Enables staff to focus efforts on higher value innovation projects.
- Gives Uniphar access to an array of additional services (e.g. licensing optimisation) when needed.
"We operate in a 24x7 highly competitive environment where customer service process efficiencies and systems uptime are critical. In 2011, we entrusted the infrastructure and database management of one of our key business applications to the Managed Services team at Version 1. To date we have found the service to be responsive, flexible and cost effective. In particular, it is reassuring to know that our key systems are being monitored and proactively supported at all times, allowing our people to focus on new project initiatives."
