Oracle application and technology license consulting
Reduce cost and risk of Oracle license non-compliance in your application and technology environment.
Oracle applications and underlying technology products have their own licensing considerations, product selection and ‘included rights’ can cause significant confusion with disparate and evolving metrics. Risks and cost saving opportunities can be significant and are best managed regularly rather than because of an Oracle license audit.
Version 1’s software asset management (SAM) experts have a deep understanding of Oracle application and technology licensing and can remove the complexity and uncertainty that often accompanies these Oracle license elements.
Our proven optimisation and SAM methodology within our Control service delivers the full lifecycle of license consulting and cost management, offering peace of mind that your enterprise estate is fully optimised and under cost control.
As an Oracle Managed Services provider, our flexible value-led framework, ASPIRE, includes Oracle Application and Database managed services that goes on to maintain the value in your application and infrastructure estate.
Oracle application and technology license consulting service elements
-
Diagnosis
Our diagnosis service will help determine potential areas of risk or optimisation in your estate and assist with prioritising reviews of license and cloud spending.
-
Discovery
A review of your entitlement and usage is imperative to knowing your position, risks and potential cost optimisation. Discovery will find the necessary data to enable informed decisions to be made.
-
Baseline
Once entitlement and usage have been discovered, creation of a current baseline of your compliance and utilisation of license as well as considering future changes to the estate will allow modelling of your position and future impact.
-
Optimisation
One or more baselines will result in optimisation activities which we will document and present to you for consideration as well as providing guidance on timing and approach to undertake the necessary actions and reach your goals.
JD Edwards license optimisation
Our UK client had previously been audited by Oracle without independent validation, leading to the costly purchase of additional licenses. As they were upgrading their JD Edwards application, which could trigger another audit, we were brought in to clarify their license grants versus actual usage. After our discovery phase, we confirmed that the client was compliant and did not need to buy additional licenses, giving them confidence in their estate for any future Oracle audits. Additionally, we modelled the commercial options for the JDE upgrade, allowing the client to include this in their migration budget.
Oracle database review
Our US Financial Services client engaged us to review their Oracle database deployment, including database options and management pack products. We conducted a comprehensive Oracle Database license entitlement review to evaluate metrics, quantities, and limitations. We clarified their current license position (both on-premises and cloud), suggested an interim deployment model for their transition to the cloud while retaining on-premises databases, and proposed a future license deployment model. Our review highlighted inactive software support and instances of over-licensing, reducing shelfware and waste.
