Version 1 Receives Honourable Mention at the 2022 Red Hat Innovation Awards
Version 1 is proud to have received an honourable mention as part of the 2022 Red Hat Innovation Awards Red Hat Innovation Awards, recognizing Version 1’s collaboration with the Department of Transport to create a reliable API platform to improve performance and enable faster analysis of data. The Red Hat Innovation Awards recognise the technological achievements of Red Hat customers around the world who demonstrate creative thinking, determined problem-solving and transformative uses of Red Hat technology.
The Irish Department of Transport’s Driver Vehicle and Computer Services Division (DVCSD) wanted to move away from its legacy architecture toward a services-oriented, API-driven model. Since the division is responsible for the National Vehicle and Driver File (NVDF)—a database containing details of all 2.4 million registered vehicles and 2.65 million licensed drivers in Ireland—it needed greater flexibility and more efficient development.
Through Version 1, the DVCSD engaged with Red Hat to assist in the development of a strategic roadmap that outlined an initial three-year plan to implement a new API services architecture. It adopted a suite of Red Hat products to help shape the safe and sustainable development of transport in Ireland. Red Hat OpenShift®, Red Hat 3scale, and Red Hat Single Sign-on technology helped it fulfil this mission while supporting economic growth and social progress.

With a foundation of enterprise open source technologies from Red Hat, Version 1 developed a strategic roadmap to create a cross-datacenter solution for DVCSD to move away from its legacy infrastructure. When the COVID-19 pandemic triggered the need for an additional level of authentication for emergency payments in the National Vehicle and Driver File, DVCSD delivered a full end-to-end production integration in just four weeks – a timeframe that would not have been possible with legacy infrastructure.
