Luxottica Improves Efficiency and Enhances Decision Making with Oracle EPM

Luxottica streamlines its processes and empowers stakeholders to make data-driven decisions.

The following case study highlights the successful implementation of an Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) platform at Luxottica Group, a multinational organisation, and a long-time client since 2012. The objective was to streamline and enhance their performance management processes, align key performance indicators (KPIs) with strategic objectives, and enable data-driven decision-making across the organisation. These projects involved designing and implementing a Hyperion Planning system with associated data integration processes followed by multiple platform migrations.

Overview

Luxottica Group is a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of premium eyewear, boasting an extensive portfolio of renowned brands. With a strong retail presence and strategic partnerships, Luxottica has established itself as a dominant force in the eyewear industry, shaping trends and providing high-quality products to consumers worldwide.

Luxottica Group had selected Oracle Hyperion Planning as their performance management platform and engaged Version 1 for the initial implementation. After several years, with evolving business needs and advancements in cloud-based solutions, they recognized the need to migrate to a more modern and scalable platform. The decision to implement PBCS was driven by the desire to improve efficiency, enhance reporting capabilities, and align with Oracle’s strategic roadmap. Version 1 was again selected to facilitate the platform migration with enhancement improvements. Recently, Version 1 also closely collaborated with the EU group to consolidate the infrastructure across different countries.

Challenges

  • Fragmented and manual processes: the use of manual processes resulted in inconsistent performance evaluation, delayed reporting, and limited visibility into organisational performance.
  • Lack of integration and data accuracy: the existing process lacked seamless integration with another key system (such as SAP ERP), leading to data discrepancies and time-consuming manual data consolidation efforts
  • Limited collaboration and alignment: Silos and decentralized processes hindered collaboration and alignment across departments, making it difficult to track progress toward strategic objectives.

Solution

  • Version 1 initially implemented the Oracle Hyperion Planning system which was integrated with SAP ERP with both data and metadata. This largely replaced the old manual process and enabled reliable reporting and a better-aligned planning process.
  • The migration from Hyperion Planning to PBCS was carried out to provide a modern and scalable platform that streamlined performance management processes, enhanced reporting capabilities, and aligned with Oracle’s strategic roadmap.
  • Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) was employed to develop a robust data integration process. ODI facilitated the extraction, transformation, and loading of data from multiple sources into PBCS, ensuring data accuracy and enabling timely reporting.
  • The data integration process was further upgraded to Cloudbridge, a cloud-based data integration solution. Cloudbridge offered enhanced capabilities, scalability, and improved data integration with PBCS, resulting in more efficient and accurate data flows.

Real Differences, Delivered

  • Streamlined processes and improved efficiency: The implementation of Hyperion Planning and the streamlined data integration process reduced manual effort, improved efficiency, and accelerated management reporting. Automation of processes and standardized reporting structures saved time, allowing employees to focus on strategic activities.
  • Improved data consistency and accuracy: The automated integration from SAP with the EPM platform ensured data consistency and accuracy across systems. This facilitated seamless data flow and enabled reliable reporting, promoting better decision-making and alignment between the EPM and ERP systems.
  • Enhanced reporting and decision-making: The EPM platform provided advanced reporting capabilities, timely insights, and standardized reporting structures. This empowered stakeholders to make data-driven decisions, monitor KPIs in real-time, and track progress toward strategic objectives effectively.
  • Scalable and Future-Ready Architecture: The migration to PBCS and adoption of Cloudbridge provided Luxottica Group with a modern and scalable performance management solution. This future-ready architecture allows for further expansion, integration with additional systems, and leveraging advanced features as the organisation’s needs evolve.
