Who is Celink?

Celink is a US-based financial services company specializing in reverse mortgage subservicing. With over two decades of experience, Celink is widely recognized as the nation’s largest independent subservicer of reverse mortgages, licensed to service loans across all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Celink’s proprietary servicing platform (“ReverseServ Elite”) and long-standing industry expertise have made it the subservicer of choice for many of the largest reverse mortgage lenders in the U.S.

The Challenge – Legacy Systems and Modernization Needs

Celink’s business was experiencing strong growth, creating an opportunity to evolve its core IT systems to support the company’s expansion plans. The company’s Loan Boarding application was entering an exciting phase of transformation to a next-generation architecture that would unlock new capabilities and position Celink to capture greater market share.

Modernizing these mission-critical systems became a strategic priority to enable faster development of new features and support Celink’s vision for the future of reverse mortgage servicing.

Celink was embarking on a program to migrate towards a modern technology stack running on serverless AWS Lambda architecture. Doing so would provide the scalability and flexibility needed to support projected growth. The transformation presented an opportunity, though as with most established systems, much of the business logic required careful analysis to ensure continuity during the transition.

Additionally, Celink, a pioneer in using Artificial Intelligence in its operational processes, was motivated to leverage Generative AI to accelerate this transformation and were looking for a partner with the right expertise to make this a reality.

Recommended Approach – an AI-Powered Solution and Serverless Architecture

To transform Celink’s module for the future, Version 1 developed a solution that capitalized on Celink’s existing cloud-native strengths. We architected a plan to re-platform the system onto Celink’s existing serverless framework, AWS Lambda, to enhance flexibility and scalability.

Version 1’s Next Generation Development approach harnessed AI-powered tooling to accelerate and derisk the transformation. We introduced our proprietary accelerator, Decipher, an AI-driven code analytics and auto documentation solution, to comprehensively analyze and document the existing codebase.

Additionally, Decipher was used to fully document the newly written Java code, resulting in a transformed and documented application. In tandem, our development team was equipped with an AI-assisted coding tool, Amazon Q for Developer, to boost productivity.

Amazon Q would help developers write and refactor code faster and accelerate testing, thereby compressing the overall development process. Using Amazon Q yielded a productivity gain of an estimated 10% which yielded cost savings for the project implementation.

Leveraging Decipher and Amazon Q, combined with our diverse delivery teams across Dublin, Ireland, and Bangalore, India, Version 1 collaborated with Celink in providing delivery and cost efficiencies to modernize the Loan Boarding application.

• Faster Delivery through AI Acceleration: By embracing our AI-assisted development, Celink was able to get the new solution delivered faster than a traditional approach would allow. For Celink, this meant faster time-to-value –enabling the project to be delivered to plan and improving their ability to respond to market opportunities.

• Comprehensive Documentation & Knowledge Retention: An often-overlooked benefit of modernization projects is documentation. Celink experienced tangible benefits from leveraging Version 1’s Decipher accelerator; they received automated, high-quality documentation for the newly developed system. As a result, Celink can also greatly simplify future maintenance and onboarding of new developers.

• Improved Business Agility: The combination of a modern architecture and improved documentation gained through this initiative now makes the new Loan Boarding service easier to extend with new features, integrate with other systems, and scale as volume grows.
