Life as a Version 1 Edinburgh Employee

Describe your average day?
The usual day for me starts with stand-ups, one with Version 1, one with the client’s team. Most of my time I spend on the adoption of Power BI, a data visualisation and analysis tool, within the client’s organisation. Together with my Line Manager and other team members, we create educational materials and every few weeks carry out training in person (via Teams). As we, as Version 1, are there to support the client’s teams, I am often assigned or volunteer for shorter tasks (helping someone from the organisation with a Power BI report, data preparation, etc.).
What makes Version 1 Edinburgh a Great Place to work?
There’s a balance between work and fun. While there’s plenty of opportunities to develop and grow your career, there are also wonderful buzz events, where you get to meet colleagues from different clients, countries, and departments. Each event is different, and soon you’ll find out how intelligent and what a great laugh your co-workers are. They are the best part of working at Version 1. Your colleagues are always happy to help, and you can reach out to anyone in the company, even management.

Describe your average day?
Firstly, and most importantly, every day as a project manager is different. Currently, as a programme lead my day is about coordination and control; a mixture of programme/project governance and reporting, and meetings & discussions with the wider project team, other colleagues within Version 1 and client stakeholders. I try to start every day starts with a large cup of coffee and an hour of focus time to review the previous day, looking ahead to the day's meetings, deliverables and catch up on a few emails. This is followed by a quick stand-up with another PM working on the programme, focusing on any blockers and critical tasks that are due. My day from then on is adjusted based on the focus-time and stand-up, along with the pre-schedule meetings – it fills up pretty quickly!
What advice would you give to someone looking to join your team?
I would say to make as many connections as possible within the PM practice & the practice you are working in, there is a lot of knowledge, expertise & support to draw upon, you only need to ask - we are a friendly bunch! Showing your drive, curiosity and willingness to learn will put you in good stead for working at Version 1.
