Transforming financial services infrastructure with centralised platform and reusable code
A prominent provider of diverse financial services, with extensive experience in the industry, faced significant challenges due to the absence of a centralised platform for new applications. This resulted in multiple issues including increased costs, lack of process and governance, and difficulties in maintaining and supporting the tenancy. The goal for our collaboration, therefore, was to introduce a shared platform for all new projects to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve governance and supportability.
Solution
We partnered with the leader in financial services to modernise their Azure infrastructure by developing Platform Landing Zones according to Microsoft’s Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF). The objective of this project was to establish a unified platform for new projects and applications, thereby improving efficiency, governance, and supportability.
Our team designed and implemented Platform Landing Zones using Terraform, Azure Repos, and Azure Pipelines. This method allowed for reusable code, increased productivity, and complete traceability of changes. The solution was customised to meet the specific customer requirements, providing a robust and scalable platform.
The Azure Landing Zone Build project focused on setting up Platform Landing Zones within the customer’s Azure Tenancy. This initiative created a centralised platform for all new projects and applications in Azure. The design, prepared by one of our Azure Solution Architects, received approval from the client after minor modifications. The strategy involved using Terraform, Azure Repos, and Azure Pipelines to create reusable code, enhance productivity, and ensure full traceability of changes in Azure.

Boosted development and testing speed for new projects by over
0 %
Improved infrastructure deployment speed by over
0 %
-
Cost reduction
Achieved a 30% reduction in running costs by sharing resources like Application Gateway and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) (previously deployed per project)
-
Increased efficiency
Implemented reusable Terraform Modules and Pipeline Templates in Azure DevOps, allowing new projects to quickly provision infrastructure and deploy applications efficiently
-
Enhanced infrastructure
Leveraged Helm templates for quick and easy deployments to AKS across multiple projects. Automated resource management with Automation Account Runbooks to turn off resources overnight, further reducing costs
-
Improved governance
Enhanced governance and supportability by standardising processes and following consistent patterns. The centralised platform ensures that all projects adhere to the same guidelines, making it easier to manage and support the Azure environment
-
Boosted speed
Boosted development and testing speed for new projects by over 50%, and improved infrastructure deployment speed by over 50%. The use of reusable code and templates significantly reduced the time required to set up new projects
-
On-time delivery
Delivered the project on time and within budget, demonstrating our commitment to meeting client expectations and delivering high-quality solutions
-
Upskilling
Conducted workshops to upskill the customer’s IT Department in Terraform and DevOps, helping them learn the new processes and technologies. This ensured that their team could effectively manage and maintain the new platform
By transforming their Azure infrastructure, we enabled the financial services leader to achieve greater efficiency, cost savings, and scalability, positioning them for future growth and success.
