E-Business Suite Upgrade

…and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Migration

After the recent success of Version 1 configuring the Nightingale Hospital within Barts Oracle system to support the battle against COVID-19, Version 1 completed a major project to upgrade Barts Health Oracle E-Business Suite estate to 12.2.9, alongside a migration to the Oracle Public Cloud.

The upgrade from E-Business Suite Version 12.1.3 to 12.2.9 was complemented with a simultaneous move to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This was a 7-month project starting in April 2020, that went live in October – adhering to a strict timeline. The project included several applications linked to E-Business Suite, such as scanning and reporting tools, alongside 3rd party integrations for Payroll, Orders and Banking.

Barts Health has implemented new 12.2.9 features such as Enterprise Command Centre, with a series of enhancements developed by Version 1 including improved journal approvals using AME and Workflow. Version 1 has built and configured 20 new servers within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, supplemented by network access and services provisioned by Barts Health IT.

A Series of Firsts

Completion of the project marks a series of notable landmarks...

  • The 1st NHS Trust to be upgraded to the latest version of E-Business Suite in the Public Cloud.
  • The largest NHS Trust in the UK to upgrade to 12.2.9 on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  • The first Version 1 customer to achieve an E-Business Suite upgrade while also migrating to Public Cloud (OCI) in one discreet project.

Real Differences...

...Delivered.

The project provides Barts Health a series of benefits, namely:

  • 12.2.9 introduces the latest features for E-Business Suite (40+ enhancements).
  • Implementation of Enterprise Command Centre with improved functionality and user experience across Finance & Procurement modules.
  • Provides the NHS Trust with Oracle Premier support for at least 11 years, until 2031.
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure migration also gives the organisation flexibility, scalability, and performance for one of the largest Finance and Procurement functions in the UK Public Health sector.
At Barts, we originally planned the upgrade to 12.2.9 and migration to the Oracle Cloud before the Global Pandemic, and both ourselves and Version 1 had to adapt to a new way of managing this project - I must say that Version 1 stepped up to the challenge and we managed to still complete on time. They have a very good understanding of both the upgrade process and the migration into the Oracle Cloud - so there were no major issues that couldn’t be resolved.
