Powering global expansion for retail giant Primark with Version 1

Leading European clothing retailer Primark employs over 70,000 people and is active in the UK, US and Europe. Primark faced a challenge common to rapidly scaling businesses – its legacy financial systems were hindering its ability to efficiently manage its needs as a multinational retailer. Not only did this impact its current plans, it also threatened to limit its future growth. 

A reliable, scalable solution was required to support the brand’s ambitious global expansion. We were selected in an open tender process to provide expertise and support implementation.    

We were tasked with scoping a future-proof financial system that could seamlessly handle the financial complexities of an expanding global footprint. Primark needed a platform that would provide robust reporting, efficient processes, and the ability to adapt to new markets quickly.  

To meet this challenge, we designed a solution with scalability and adaptability at its heart. We recommended Oracle E-Business Suite Financials, a powerful enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution. Working closely with Primark, we delivered the core financial modules (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, eTax & Fixed Assets, AGIS) along with necessary customisations, third-party integrations and a reporting solution. All of this in under 12 months.  

Our focus on strong programme management, upfront governance, and a collaborative approach ensured a smooth deployment that met Primark’s aggressive timeline. During this time, we specified a Hypercare period to deliver enhanced support for Primark’s teams.  

The new Oracle-based financial system has transformed Primark’s operations. With real-time financial insights, its management team can make informed strategic decisions on global expansion and its streamlined processes have boosted efficiency. Primark now has the financial infrastructure it needs to support its continued growth, opening new stores and entering new markets worldwide.
